This is a list of a dozen or soChupacabra events in an outbreak in Chile
I have underlined apparentdescriptive components and also excised material not directly associated withthis phenomenon.
I would love to simply write offthis critter as a giant vampire bat which it apparently most resembles. My hesitation comes from the reptilianmovement up a cliff face which may not be significant but does confirm theexistence of four effective limbs and from the apparent separately organizedwings as an apparent fifth and sixth set of limbs.
These wings appear to clearly dotheir job so to some degree they have skeletal structures as we have seendescribed on gargoyles carved in the Middle Ages plausibly from examples. This makes it so far unique among earthoriginated fauna. We really have to askwhere this evolutionary divergence came from. The idea that it may be an alien predator has at least that muchtraction.
The hunch back aspect surelyreflects the resting mode for the wings. The creature bounds into the air readily suggesting a lower thatexpected weight. That it can do so andthen flap its way aloft is an extraordinary development. It opens the door to considerations ofgravity management already proposed for certain butterflies.
This package of reports is ratherlarge and enough to pretty well describe the creature and to establish itsapparent food source.
1 It appears to be the size of a medium sized dog.
2 It has four limbs sporting grasping claws allowing itto seize a victim from above.
3 It appears to be furred like a bat but otherobservations beg the question of feathers. This may have a non mammalian ancestry or be a fabricated hybrid.
4 It has in addition an expandable set of wings capableof providing flapping flight at least and certainly able to allow it toglide and soar.
5 It feeds principally off blood and if necessary it eatshigh value organ meat. It has longhollow fangs to accomplish this. Organmeat is easy to eat raw and it is possible it has difficulty with muscle.
6 Of course, it is nocturnal
7 It resides in caves and similar dens were it will notbe disturbed.
8 It likely feeds around once a week and it also rangeswidely. Thus events tend to be wellspaced out as it works through its range.
9 Its easy take off and its gliding capacity suggestsmodest energy outlay when searching for a meal. Most meals will not be human livestock but likely lone deer and thelike, thus sharply curtailing human interaction.
10 It may live in family groups as suggested by a coupleof possible multiple attack situations. Attacks on cattle as evidenced by the infamous mutilation cases supportthe idea that several creatures participated on an attack on a particularlyrich target.
I am still inclined to suppose abat evolutionary path for this creature, but we need to also consider thepossibility of a direct reptilian dinosaur route here. This is so hugely divergent that it may be alost genus evolved in South America as Marsupials emerged in Australia and theMammal in the old world. The feeding strategyis surprisingly safe for the attacker and it appears to have the additionalability to mentally prevent outcry allowing the attack to easily succeed. Feeding itself will be over in less that acouple of minutes because the beating heart will swiftly empty the body of thevictim of blood. That provides no timefor anything except a feeble response from the victim and no time from othersto understand and even react. Besides,the hunter will normally make sure that the victims are at least partiallyisolated.

A witness riding his bicycle was passing by the local Lion's Club building,when he heard a groan and stopped to see what had happened. On the side of thebuilding, he saw a dead dog in the grass, and next to it, a pair of largeshining eyes. The eyes were so shiny that the witness could not makeout any detail of the creature's body. Suddenly the creature lifted the deaddog with its hands, and in the wink of an eye was only 10 meters awayfrom the witness, after being 50 meters away a second before. Shocked thewitness quickly pedaled away stunned as to the manner that the creature moved.

Eight young locals looking for the reputed blood predator in the local hillssaw a strange short creature apparently covered with hair make a prodigiousleap then run into a nearby cave, near the River Loa.
A few nights later, several locals living on the slopes of a hill saw astrange entity quickly climbing up the side of the hill at incredible speed. Itmoved up on practical vertical cliffs using reptilian like movements, itseemed to expand as if possessing dark wing-like membranes on its back thatapparently propelled it up the cliffs. Once it reached the summit, thewitnesses began hearing strange growling and screeching sounds comingfrom the area.

Farm worker Jose Ismael Pino was looking for a loose wild bull whenhe came upon a four-foot tall creature, simian in appearance, with longclawed arms, enormous fangs protruding from its mouth, as well as a pair ofwings. Scared he ran to fetch some dogs that attacked the creature. One ofthe dogs came back with a bloodstained neck.

Santa Elena de Codao, Chile - May 7, 2000 - 11:00pm
33-year old, G Alejandro Canales was returning back to his home after guardinghis rabbit pens. As he took a short cut through an unlit alley hefelt something fall on his back. He struggled with the "thing"and managed to shine a flashlight on it. He was stunned to see a shortsimian looking creature, with large pointy fangs, black fingernails, largegolden luminous eyes, and dark leathery wings on its back. He also felt astrong musty odor during the encounter. The creature quickly scurried awaydisappearing into the darkness. Others found the witness in a state of shockupon hearing his screams. Deep scratches were found on Canales body.

Near Calama
A soldier stationed near the city reported seeing a strange creature thatwas able to make incredible leaps and bounds at times seemingly suspended inmid-air. He described the entity as about 1.20m tall, kind of hairy, andsort of hunchbacked. A patrol was supposedly sent after it. Supposedly thepatrol found some strange "eggs" that they brought back to thebarracks. Later another patrol reportedly killed two of the creatures andcaptured a third. It is said that NASA personnel retrieved all three creatures.

Several security guards posted at the entrance to La Minera El Tesorospotted several moving figures in the nearby brush. Upon shiningtheir flashlight at the creatures they could tell that they were simian inappearance and moved using incredible leaps and bounds at very high speed. Oneof the creatures stood up on two legs and it measured about 1.60m in height. Ithad large glowing yellow eyes and its body was covered with thick hair.The next day the men found a dead dog, which was missing all its organs.

The next night, a young couple was parked in an isolated area making out, whensuddenly a humanoid figure, covered with hair and with large luminousreddish yellowish eyes appeared in front of the vehicle. The young womanthen received an apparently telepathic message from the creature, telling herto open the car door and step outside. She was about ready to open to door whenshe suddenly realized what she was doing. The panicked couple attempted tostart the vehicle in order to leave, but could no move their legs. Finally theywere able to move and drove away from the area.

Local residents living next to the Tocopilla hills were suddenly awaken by strangeloud noises. At first they thought it was a person climbing the hill, but afterobserving it in greater detail, they realized that, whatever they were seeing,not only was not human; it was something they have never seen before. It wasa creature that was climbing the hill very rapidly despite the seventy toeighty degrees steep. They described the being as very agile andfast, making reptilian like movements like a small lizard. The creatureappeared to be much bigger than a condor, brown in color, with bright red eyesand what appeared to be feathers throughout its body. It emitted loud quacklike noises that were heard every night for a couple of weeks, causing dogs tobark and howl at night.

37-year old Evelyn Esbry woke up early in the morning in order to use thetoilet facilities located outside in the terrace. On her way there she heardsounds coming from the patio area. Suddenly an entity jumped on her back,paralyzed with fear she turned around to see a bizarre hairy creature, witha large nozzle, about 4-feet tall, and with large luminous orange, oval shapedeyes. Terrified, Evelyn fainted and did not see the creature depart. Shesuffered from shock and was treated at the local hospital for deep scratches.The victim told local paramedics that the creature seemed to communicate withher, using telepathy telling her not to scream.

A local villager heard a loud commotion on the roof of his house. Uponinvestigating he was confronted by a strange creature that was standing on theroof. On Saturday, April 29, 2000, Jose Ismael Pino, 59, a farm worker employed atthe Esperance Ranch two kilometers (one mile) east of Huepil, near Tucapel, hada face-to-face meeting with the Chupacabra.
Leaving the barn at 8 p.m., Pino explained, "There was a large bullrunning wild. I was walking along when I saw something, and I thought that wasit. 'Hey, damned bull!' I shouted, and then I saw that it wasn't. It hardlymoved. It just stood there, looking at me. It stood about 1.5 meters (fourfeet) tall, like a big monkey, with long clawed arms, enormous fangs protrudingfrom its mouth, as well as a pair of wings. I was so scared I turned andran back for the hounds. I set them all loose and let them chase after 'TheBird.' Cachorro (one of the dogs--J.T.) came back with a bloodstainedneck."
"Pino's boss, Jorge Venegas, owner of the 75-acre farm, carries a loadedshotgun on his shoulder."

"'We don't know what we're dealing with here. I'm not so concerned aboutthe attacks on the animals, but I have two children, 12 years old and 15 yearsold, and I'm not going to let anything happen to them. In fact, right now I'mgoing to get a floodlight to see at night, in case something weird shows up,'explained the planter, hefting the shotgun to his right shoulder."
Farms in the Huepil-Tucapel area "were affected by the alleged predator,which killed four sheep on one farm and a cow on another."
However, not everybody believes that the the Chupacabra is the culprit. Themanager of the Raul Perez farm told the newspaper Cronica, "Years ago, wehad a (wild) dog problem. They managed to kill 70 sheep one single night, butwe gave it no further importance at the time."
On Tuesday night, May 2, 2000, Carabineros (Chile's national police--J.T.) fromthe cuartel (barracks) in Santa Fe reported that "eight sheep, all of thempregnant, had been attacked by an unknown animal, which had left themhalf-dead, making it necessary to put them down."
The attacks were "blamed on wild dogs. Subofficer Alviro Valdebenito ofthe
Lt. Walter Koch of the Huepil Carabineros stated, "No, there were noreports about it (Chupacabra--J.T.) whatever. We don't even have pumas in thissector, and only in the pre-Cordillera ranges will you find foxes. The onlypredator of the type we've had are Siberian dogs which have feasted on somechickens."
"Carlos Villalobos, a schoolteacher in Huepil, said, 'I think it's linkedto some unknown life-form, possibly alien in origin, but the authorities takethe position of not acknowledging it, and they are probably very justified,since a collective panic situation could be unleashed.'"
The Chupacabra attacks continued without letup.
On Wednesday, May 3, 2000, "at 1:30 a.m., professor Liliana RomeroCastillo slept soundly in her apartment located at Laguna Redonda inConcepcion, when she was awakened by the barking of the five stray puppies shehad picked up some time earlier." The Puppies were living "in thebuilding courtyard with Black, her large, fierce mastiff."
"'I crouched and looked through the window. The puppies were whining, andBlack had cowered against the wall and was motionless. I could see the back ofwhat appeared to be an immense man, standing more than two meters (6 feet, 8inches) tall. The shoulder blades were split, as if he had wings. Itsattitude (posture--J.T.) recalled that of a person choking another. That was myimpression,' said Sra. Romero."
"Concerned that a crime was taking place in her garden, she woke herhusband, who gave the matter little attention. 'I'm not getting up,' he said,half-asleep."
Sra. Romero returned to the window to get another look at the creature, but bythen it was gone.
"The following day (Thursday, May 4, 2000) Liliana sent her children outto buy groceries at the local store. using a shortcut located behind theirbuilding. Upon their return, they told their mother that they had seen 'a deaddog'" in the alleyway.
Liliana asked her husband to check, and he returned saying that a wooly,beige-colored dog was lying on the ground with two puncture marks in thethroat."
'I don't know if I might be in a suggestive state,' he said, 'But it had twodeep holes in its jugular (vein), about the size of a Bic pen, separated byfive centimeters between them. What impressed me the most was the way the bodywas completely bloodless and was as light as a feather. The dog was incrediblywooly (furry--J.T.) and in fact I had to move the fur to see the puncturemarks.'"
Summoned by Liliana, a team of Carabineros arrived at the crime scene and tookcustody of the dog's body. They loaded the dog into a black plastic garbage bagand "ordered the family to remain silent, so as not to panic the localresidents."
"'But I'm scared,' Liliana said, 'Since I have very young children, andI'm afraid that whatever was there will come back.'"

El Chupacabra has been crawling all over Chile in the last few months, raisingmany new questions about this mysterious creature, and resulting in astonishingclaims about its origin.
It stands three to four feet tall, has a flexible row of spines down its back,eyes that glow red and long, sharp fangs... some even say it has wings. This ishow eyewitnesses have described the strange, unworldly creature known as ElChupacabra - Spanish for "the goat sucker." In late May / early June, rumors surfaced that three of the creatures hadactually been captured. Reported chiefly by Marcial Campos Maza of the Chile'sEFE news service and by Joseph Trainor of UFO Roundup in the U.S. among others,the stories claimed that three of the creatures had been caught in the desertnear a mine just north of the town of Calama. In the struggle to capture theChupacabras, they said, one Chilean soldier had been killed. The Chileanmilitary allegedly would not discuss the matter.
More bizarrely, after the little monsters had been held in an army barracks forseveral hours, a team of NASA representatives arrived by helicopter from the

It seemed El Chupacabra was not pleased with having a few of its kind cartedaway. A new rash of animal killings started to occur in early June. In thebackyard of a home in the port city of
The strange case took place around 4 a.m. while Julio Reyes and his wife,Carmen Andrade, were still asleep. They suddenly heard a loud noise coming fromtheir home's back yard, a kind of small farm in which they have a henhouse anda garden containing tomato, potato, chocla and pepper plants. "The lightoutside the henhouse was on. I saw the monster flapping his wings fiercelywhile the hens were crowing - something they never do at this time. That's whenI saw the white one running toward the back. At this time, Bobby [the family'sdog] came out to take a look, but when he saw the back gate, through which thehens had fled, he refused to follow and remained standing still. He then rantoward the street gate and began barking," explained Carmen, who did notwitness the events herself out of fear that the intruder might be a burglar."Bobby became sort of dopey and turned back. He didn't dare goforward," Julio said. Around 7 a.m., the couple discovered what hadtranspired. In the very rear of the backyard - which can only be reached bycrossing two gates - their three hens and one rooster were found dead,completely torn to shreds, as if they had been ripped open at the chest cavityand scattered in a 10-meter (33-foot) radius. It is worth noting that thehouse's entrance is a gate covered with chicken wire."
Chile's national police blamed the attack on wild dogs, but Reyes did notaccept that explanation. "Based on several paw prints found on thesite," the newspaper article continued, "twice the size of Bobby's,the owner was not satisfied with the explanation, given the difficulty a dogwould have had in getting into the area." Also, Reyes said he had previousexperiences with dogs attacking his chickens, and they took the chickens awayone by one to eat them, they did not slaughter them in this manner.

Upon hearing the frenetic barking of his dogs, security guard (involved in aprevious encounter) Luis Alberto Calivar armed himself with a flashlight and aknife and went outside to investigate, as he did the dogs suddenly became verystill. Soon his lights illuminated a dark greenish form that ran very quicklyclimbing up a Wasintonia palm. As he shone the flashlight at the figure he felthis arm become "cold" and the knife and watch dropped out of his hand,at the same time the dogs stood very quiet and still. A feeling of numbnessovercame his body and he ran back inside his security shack, he was followed bythe dogs that hid under the room and began to shake in fear. He could onlydescribe the creature as having large flopping ears, fluid in nature,apparently without a bone structure (!), it gave the appearance of being aflexible mass that moved around like a Kangaroo. It moved silently and wasabout 1.30m in height. When he first spotted the creature it seemed to havebeen crouching down, behind a bush. It seemed to twist its body around andnever looked straight at the witness, which never dropped his flashlight.Incredibly despite the reactions the witness felt no fear and did not noticeany odors coming from the creature. The encounter lasted about 5 minutes andthe creature was about 9 meters away from the witness. He further described thecreature as having greenish hairs about 5 to 6cm in length. Soon after theencounter Calivar had too see a doctor and lost about 20 pounds.

Villa Nonguen,
Julio Reyes and wife Carmen Andrade were awaken by noises coming from thebackyard, which contained a hen house and a garden. Looking out they sawbizarre humanoid flapping a pair of large wings. The creature was describedas white in color. It ran towards the rear of the house. The guard dogrefused to follow it out. Several hens were found dead and strange footprintswere also located.

Several witnesses including investigator Jaime Ferrer were leaving a localrestaurant through the back door when they all saw a strange looking bird-likecreature in the sky. It was flying at an altitude of about 40 metersdirectly above the group. It was gray in color and it passed by so rapidly thatthey did not have time to take a photograph of it. Its body was shape like aduck, but it was at least five times bigger. It had a long neck and thestrangest thing about it was that if it would have been compared to an ordinarybird, this one had a much larger body in relation to its wings.Nevertheless, it seemed to fly like an ordinary bird; it glided smoothly andit flapped its wings every so often to gain momentum.

Near Puerto Cuatro Chile
A woman and her friend, a professor had just left the Lions Club dinner and wasdriving south of the city when they spotted "two strange yellowlights" on the road ahead. The driver flashed her high beams at the twointense yellow lights a short distance away. The witnesses began to slow downsince the "yellow light" remained stationary. They then saw a figurestanding about three feet away from their front bumper. The figure wasdescribed as large, lacking ears, covered with extremely long gray hair, particularlyaround the neck, with two immense slanted yellow eyes. The driver and thecreature exchanged looks for about 10 seconds, after which the car drove alongthe left lane. The creature followed the vehicle's departure with its head, andwas apparently capable of making 180-degree turns. Terrified the witnessesdrove away, seeing the yellow light again as it lit up the entire road beforedisappearing.

Three men standing at the front gate of the Mina El Tesoro spotted whatappeared to be a pair of glowing eyes at about 30 meters away. They noticed3 forms, one large and two small, about 1 meter in height. They were somewhatsimian in appearance and bounded away towards the nearby ridge. The sameguards had seen similar creatures back in May.

Freddy Villalobos, his cousin Christopher Huanca Valenzuela and a group offriends had just finished a soccer match in a nearby field, when they saw astrange bird. It was about 70 cm in length. It landed on top of a publiclight pole. The light fixture dimmed as the creature landed on it; it was to apoint where it was almost completely out. The witnesses were able to see thatit had round reddish yellow eyes. The creature emitted short squeaking sounds.One of the witnesses turned on the truck headlights in order to obtain a betterlook and the bird reacted immediately, covering its head with its wings, as thelight apparently bothered it. It seemed to be floating on top of the lightfixture rather than having its feet on top of it. Suddenly, it opened up itswings for a brief moment and they saw its head; they described it as horrible.It resembled the head of an old man with a long nose and a triangular shapedmouth. Scared, the kids began throwing rocks at it. It shortly flew awayand disappeared.

The director of a local school noticed a group of children starting at a nearbytree. All were silent and were not moving a muscle and appeared to befascinated by something. As he approached the group he noticed a bizarrebird-like creature, about 1.80 meters in height that was flying slowly aroundthe tree at about 4 meters from the ground. This "bird" was totallyblack in color and somewhat resembled a Great Dane dog with wings. It seemed tomove in slow motion, and would briefly hide inside the tree branches andthen exit again. The director obtained a flashlight from his office andilluminated the creature that seemed to resent the light. It had large brightwhite eyes. After a few minutes it seemed to disappear in plain sight.

Mr. Oscar Solar Valdebenito, married, a sergeant with the Carabineros, wasperforming his duties as a security guard in the
Mr. Solar was alone and was making his rounds of the construction site’sinterior. Once he returned to the guard shack on the southern side, using apassageway located in the back, he noticed the presence of an"animal" standing 1.20 meters tall, average complexion, with a smallhead in proportion to the rest of its body. The creature sat on top of a metalpole ending in four luminaries, standing some 8 meters tall. The animallanded at the very same time that the watchman turned his attention to thesite. Solar was able to see the lights go out and the pole shake as a result ofthe creature’s descent. The estimated weight of this strange being was some40 to 50 kilograms (according to the eyewitness). Its head featured two medium-sizedears, sideways and pointing upward, with rounded tips, pricked up like those ofa police dog. Two long wings with pointed ends emerged from its shoulders.It never folded its wings, keeping them unfurled "like a vulture under thesun" (eyewitness’s description). He saw no feathers, only a kind ofvelvety skin, dark grey or black in color. He was unable to make out the face.The wings extended to the creature’s lower body, where he could also see twolegs. A pair of stubby arms could also be seen under the head.
The witness was accompanied by four dogs, a beige bitch in the lead.Apparently, the "winged animal" pounced on the dogs, but these tookoff running and howling in a southward direction, abandoning the constructionsite. Five or six youths coming down from the north along the train tracks thatgo beside the site, also took off running when they saw what was going on. Thewitness explained that he was standing some 30 meters from the pole. He didn’tmanage to move or turn on his flashlight, such was the degree of fright andsurprise inspired by the situation described. He recalls having heard a sharp,loud squawk as the "animal" landed on the pole. Judging by the toneof this squawk, it was reminiscent of a loudspeaker’s crackle.
The "animal" eventually landed on the ground after making a flight ina gentle curve. It landed on a conical pile of dirt. After the dogs tookoff, it flew off with two gentle flaps of its wings, flying over a 3 meterwall, above which five wires are suspended, providing light to anotherstreetlamp on the corner. The creature never came close to touching them. Theanimal came within 10 meters of the witness’s position. Its descent to theground left prints on the mound of dirt - the witness managed to see "threethin holes" and fenced them off, but they were erased and destroyed on thenext day at the order of the construction supervisors.
Personnel from Carabineros (state police) reported to the scene the next day,along with the Servicio de Investigaciones (civil police) who displayed theirannoyance with the construction supervisor for having erased the prints,despite having been informed of the situation.
